The child in us

So today whilst heading off to work, hubby and my eldest child were walking me to the car.

My daughter was dragging my luggage and I felt a bit melancholic. I had taken this same trip many times before but today I really did not want to. I miss my family loads when I’m away.

I told hubby this and he comforted me continuously, patting my head and assuring me I’d be back soon and we can all have a lovely weekend together as always.

The more he assured me, the more tears welled up in my eyes and I realized that inside every one of us still lurks that little child who does not like being dropped off at school, nursery or a stranger’s place. Inside most of us lies the distress we feel when we have to go on a journey away from our habitat, our comfort zone. Inside most of us yearns a single place to call home for as long as we are alive. We don’t mind a change but we would always want everything else to change with us.

However often these upsetting, out of the box, radical type journeys are necessary and usually what takes us to the next level in life. Sounds cliche but it’s true. Look back at leaps you’ve made in life, they are always accompanied by a journey. Look at the kids you have, they started with a marriage journey, or perhaps just a relationship journey. The job you love so much started with that dreaded interview. The degree you now celebrate so much started with long painful studies, exams, and sleepless nights. Often journeys taken alone too.

So when you get an opportunity to go on a journey, and your inner child rears its head, remind yourself of the gains awaiting you. If it’s a journey purposed by God, then at the end and at various stages in between lies immense victory… #sholaswords #enecomatotheworld #Godsdaughter
